7/17/20 – Parnelli Patterson

On my morning ride around Asheville, I came across a cycling race way.  Yep, in addition to the great NASCAR race tracks in nearby Charlotte and Bristol, Asheville has one for bicycles.  I could have just continued on the scenic trail along the river, but the bicycle race track was calling.

The trail had a 15-mph limit but the raceway had no limit.  It was smooth and the turns were banked. I throttled to full speed and kept it there the whole time passing other cyclists even high in the outside lane.

“We have to ask,” one of the cyclists inquired for him and his wife. “It’s Sunride,” I told them, “my solar powered electric bike,” as I lapped them a second time. It was so fun to go at full speed round and around again and again. Parnelli Patterson did about 10 laps averaging 24 mph around the quarter mile track. Top speed on the bike is 25.
