6/25/20 – Colorado Wind Turbines and Storms

Driving from Sterling, Colorado south along the border with Kansas we saw thousands of wind turbines.

I am always enchanted by these powerful beauties. In places they were very near the road, on both sides. We were literally driving through the middle of a wind farm.  The wind seemed too strong to try to ride through on Sunride. Sometimes strong gusts would push our trailer abruptly to the side. We kept waiting for the wind to die down but it never did. The entire horizon was dotted with turbines turning effortlessly generating thousands of megawatts (gigawatts) of clean energy. As we came out of the wind farm area, having traveled a hundred miles or more, the skies darkened around us. We were driving in sunshine, but it was an oasis of sun. There would be no biking today.  Sunride Colorado would have to wait. No way was I getting out into any of this:
